Waterproof Tiles

Many people think that ceramic tile installations themselves are fairly water tight. This is only partly true. Water can pass through tiny shrinkage cracks in and around the contact point. The moisture will penetrate through the joints to the substrate. As a consequence the installation is moisture damaged. Waterproofing is essential in areas exposed to moisture, such as washrooms, showers, swimming pools, reservoirs, green house and boat deck etc.., Most building standards require waterproofing in these areas. Ceramic tile, in conjunction with the appropriate waterproof material, form the waterproofing. Waterproofing tiles incorporate special hidden membranes that are beneath the tile and the thin cement setting bed.

Waterproofing fabricates the tile with outstanding anti-corrosive performance and improves the sturdiness even in salt-damaged regions and corrosive environments. This is necessary in all the areas starting from small household to the large buildings including the huge industries. Industrial and the commercial building need reliable waterproofing that retains the dry surface for various industrial purposes.

Waterproofing solutions can efficiently guard the buildings from water. Before the plastics was invented, plumbers used thin sheets or lead for shower membranes or pans in washrooms. They would tactfully form the lead into the bottom of the shower area and extend it up the shower walls. All seams would be soldered to make the pan leak proof. The lead connected to a special drain fitting would allow water that seeped past the tile to go into the drain piping instead of your house.

Few decades back tile grout material was filled in the juncture when tiled surface is installed at a non-tiled surface. In addition they were further water sealed by application of caulking material. This means of waterproofing a tiled and a non-tiled surface juncture is not permanent and does give trouble after a few years. The caulking material develops separation where it joins the tile, as it ages and gets mold and dirty from the water falling on it. The grout between the tub and tile develops hairline cracks because when the tub is put weight into of water and people, the tub surface separates from the grout. As a result after some time water starts to leak. This water leakage causes damage.

But with waterproofing tiles, a moisture resistant tile is installed has part of the tiled surface for providing a permanent solution to surface and tile joint leakage problems. The waterproof tile consists of a glazed tile surface having a curvature which directs the water away from the juncture, a non glazed surface which is cemented to the tiled wall and a bottom side which holds sealant for sealing against the non tiled surface. Water proofing could be direct bonding to tile. This simple design and installation is usually used in swimming pools. They offer reinforcement and are resistant to chloride corrosion. Sandwich slab is one another type. This is used when there is negative water pressure. Undoubtedly with waterproofing tiles, the construction of both corporate and conventional house hold is more fast, easy and reliable.
